Attention! Attention! Prepare for Security Search!

We need a vacation! I've got a few days after Christmas off, and my sons have decided we need to go to Atlanta to see a football game. They are die hard Falcons fans. Oh, how I have failed them :)

Problem number one -- football games are getting too expensive.

Problem number two -- why see a football game inside a dome when you can enjoy a December or January game in 80 degree Miami weather?

Problem number three -- I heard from a colleague in Greater Atlanta Presbytery that the Georgia Dome now requires everyone to be patted down by security. They suggest arriving at least 2 hours before the game. Hey, you can't tell me this is terrorist related! They just want to sell me more $10 hot dogs and $50 team shirts while I hang around waiting for the game to begin.

Well, we live in a security conscious world, so I've decided everyone leaving comments on my blog have to be patted down. From now on, you have to do the word confirmation thing to leave a comment. I didn't mind the comment spam telling me I had a great blog and "by the way, check out my website about the latest stock picks."

It bothered me a bit when I began to read comments concerned about my sexual fitness. Attention world -- It's not that I don't appreciate your concern, but you need to understand that I will not buy any Viagra until wife suggests it might be a good idea.

But today there were two porn sites leaving links in the comments. What would RG say? (By the way RG, I miss you! Your comments energize me).

Please leave comments -- but prepare to be patted down with word verification :) I would really like to hear from those 62 different nations that seem to be represented among my visitors! Why is someone from South Korea reading this? Or Vietnam? Or Peru? Comment please, even though you have to pass through my new security.

So, where should we really go on vacation? I'm thinking Non-NFL cities!

Hi, Apostle John. Thanks for stopping by, and be sure to remember me in your prayers: specifically, I'm looking for more tolerance and kindness.

I apologize for my nasty rant about my minister and her daughter. I tried to keep it light, because really, there but for the grace of God go I; but unfortunately, the whole story goes much deeper, and it really has caused deep hurt in our congregation.

And really? I LOVE being a Presbyterian! I'm proud of our accepting, forgiving nature, and if you don't agree, we could probably get a committee together to discuss it! ; )

You should come down to Singapore! It's got absolutely no NFL, in fact, I think most people here don't even know of its existence. The only downside is, you'll spend 2 days travelling out to here and back.

BTW I enjoy reading your blog entries.

Hmmm -- a non-NFL city? I'm sure Singapore is nice, but how about Butte? Or Bozeman? Or Missoula? No NFL teams there, and all three are within the lower 48.

But then again, you probably don't want to be in Montana in December. Too bad ...

For some reason the spam seems to have gotten worse over the last few days. I had to turn on the pat down too.

Yes, we understand about the pat down. i was getting some really odd things on my blog, now I only get visits from friends.

Vacation spot? Depends on what you're looking for. Weston VT is gorgeous (beautiful little Vermont town with great hiking/cross country skiing, a couple of neat little inns, good shopping at the Vermont Country store for things you can't find anywhere else but a country store, and the Weston Priory, where Benedictine monks live, work, and sing and pray the liturgy.

Someplace warm? We love taking Windjammer cruises. They're five to seven day cruises on old refitted sailing ships. They usually go to off-the-beaten-track islands where the real people live and work, rather than the big glitzy touristy spots. Great hiking on nature trails in Nevis, great scuba diving or snorkeling just about everywhere, very casual - no dressing up or formal dining or anything - and very reasonably priced.

Best of all, once you leave the US, no one pats you down (except significant other/spouse).

Apostle John, I, too, had to do that darn word verification thingie. I was tired of ads being posted. I agree traveling is becoming such a hassle but it could be much worse. Have you ever thought about a road trip? I am planning one soon. I am going to go see a friend who lives in Phoenix, Arizona and drive my way up to the Four corners area. I plan to check out the Grand Canyon and also to go see some pueblos. You live in Florida, right? There are a lot of places to go visit around that area. I swear nothing makes more memories than a road trip with the ones you love.
